BirchBox Review

So to start with when I was researching different beauty boxes I read some reviews on BirchBox that were a little concerning but I still needed to find out for my self. When I got my box it came in another box and a big packaged bag. After getting it all unwrapped the suspense completely went away! Kind of disappointed by the presentation compared to other monthly boxes I have gotten.. Definitely 2 STARS for poor presentation.

On the plus side I did get a free FULL SIZE MAC Patent Polish Lip Pencil in Look Lively which I must say is a beautiful color but I’m still warming up to the color. You can see it in my Look Of The Day 6/14/17. The product it self is flawless as expected from MAC. Goes on smoothly and gives you a beautiful finish. 5 STARS for this product!

Marcelle Hydra-C Energizing Hydrating Gel is definitely going to be added as a part of my skincare regimen! Gives your face a fresh boost, great for those days when you don’t feel up to par ;). Love the smell; isn’t oily AT ALL and is just an all around amazing product. 5 STARS for this product!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is another product I am adding to my skincare regimen! I absolutely love the feeling as you smooth it on to your skin! A little goes A LONG WAY!! A major plus is that is a GAME-CHANGER for your foundation I recommend to anyone who doesn’t use a primer before foundation to try this!! This primer has changed my life! I love my finished look so much more just by adding this product to my routine!!!

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil isn’t as cracked up as it is made to be. I must say its just a normal brow pencil. Says that is supposed to be “smudge proof” and  goes on “smooth” I didn’t see a difference from any other pencil I’ve used. It still smudged if it touched it or needed itch around my eyebrow and it didn’t go on all that smooth at all. Needless to say 2.5 STARS for this product.

Mannakadar Eye Candy is I must say pretty awesome. 2 in 1 shadow primer and cream shadow!! Goes on smooth and stays in place for hours!!! I have to be honest I haven’t tried it as a primer yet but I will be sure to let you know how amazing it is!!! The color Jelly Bean is BEAUTIFUL!!! IT goes on as a grey violet color and makes hazel eyes pop!! 5 STARS for this product.

Oribe Dry Texturizing spray.. O M G!! I can’t even begin to explain how much I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!! I have very thin fine hair and this product gives my hair some VAVAVOOM no other product can even begin to compete with!! My hair doesn’t even look like my hair after using this product!!!! 5 STARS for this product!!! Everyone with thin hair should be using this product!!!!!

May- Allure Beauty Box Review

So I know I can speak for many women out there when I say we can be completely indecisive in so many different ways! Makeup up is my weak spot! When I heard about these monthly beauty boxes I jumped at the opportunity to try them out! Well then there was a down fall… I would get products that I ABSOLUTELY KNEW I wasn’t going to like! “Why am I going to pay for stuff I don’t like, want, or am going to use?” So I am doing a service for all the women out there who feel the same as I do and have been in the same situation!

Allure beauty box is AWESOME!! Major PRO is you get to see what you are going to get… If you don’t like the products for the month you can skip it!!!

So the picture is for the month of May beauty box. In my box I got Skin Fix Foaming Clay Cleanser, Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Sunscreen SPF 30, Stress Check Breathe in This Works roll on oils (smells like eucalyptus), Kneipp Body Oil in Lavender, and Luxie Taperd Blending Brush #205.

So I absolutely LOVE the Skin Fix Foaming Clay Cleanser! It has a nice floral smell to it which is a plus when you get some up your knows HAHA! It has a wonderful smooth lather to it when applying; also removes every bit of makeup, oil and impurity. Its really easy to wash off and it leaves your skin feeling soft and doesn’t give you that dried out feeling that some washes give you! My opinion this is a 5 STAR product!! (I am not a dermatologist of medical doctor so please consult with them before trying or using any product.)

Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Sunscreen is not my favorite unfortunately. I was disappointed because I was really excited about this one because I am in the market for a new daily sunscreen. I feel it is too thick for me; it left my skin feeling like there was a layer of film on it after all was said and done. On a positive note it has a convenient opening to for easy application! I give this 2.5 STARS. ( I’m hoping it grows on me LOL I love anything elephants 😉 )

Stress Check Breathe In This Works is by far my FAV out of the box this month!! I love the eucalyptus smell, and it is perfect for on the go use! It is a light oil that doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy which is a definite plus!!!  I use it frequently while I am working in the emergency department, because it fits directly in my scrub pockets! I give this product 5 STARS!

Kneipp Body Oil in Lavender is another FAV!! I add a few drops to my bath after a long day at work and it puts me in a deeply relaxed state! The lavender brings out a “just right” smell not too strong but not too weak. This oil is thicker so a little goes A LONG WAY! I recommend when using this for massages you wash it off afterwards. I have oily skin as it is and the first time I used it and didn’t wash it off I woke up with a few too many pimples on my back than I had the night before!! I give this product 4 STARS (only because of the thicker feel of the oil).

Luxie Tapered Blending Brush #205.. NEVER can have TOO MANY brushes LOL. It is soft and blends very well! This brush is great because it actually puts the product on your face instead of it disappearing into the brush ( I know at least one person out there who is reading this knows what I am talking about!!). Overall this is a dependable brush and not too expensive! Overall I give this brush 4.5 STARS

I hope this review gives you some insight on Allure Beauty Box as well as the products!

Contour and Highlight 101

Step 1: Always start with a clean moisturized face.

Step 2: I like to put a light layer of liquid foundation on to create an even canvas. (Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation in olive is my go to!) Using your fingers spread your foundation smoothly it into your skin and then blend using either a blender ball liquid foundation brush etc.

Step 3: Illuminate!! I use Luna highlighter and a Sephora multi-tasking brush #45 to make a T design down my nose and across my forehead. Then creating a half crescent moon underneath eye to give your eyes a bright refreshed look. Next make a circle under your bottom lip and create a line starting from the inside of your lower jaw line moving out and upwards toward your ear.

Step 4: I go over the same design I did with the highlighter with banana powder (you can use a translucent powder or setting powder to help get rid of most of the shine)

Step 5: Contour! (Make sure if your using the same brush you clean it before contouring or else you will look like a unicorn!) Start at the inside of the cheek bone following it up towards the ear. Next follow the hairline across your forehead and then follow underneath the same line you highlighted across your jaw line. I have a rather big nose or so I have been told so I contour my nose creating two lines one on each side starting at the eyebrow working my way down to the nostrils.

Step 6: BLEND! This is a very crucial step. You want to make sure everything flows together and you don’t look like a clown! Gently run your brush in a circular motion over your entire face.

Tip: If contouring the nose be sure you blend very well in the creases.

Tip: Using Banana powder as a part of your highlighting routine will give you a brighter look.

Cheap girls guide for cleaning your makeup brushes

  • Dish-wash soap (preferably a clear one seventh generation, dawn pure, etc.)
  • Good Old EVOO (extra virgin olive oil; I don’t use regular oil olive because its too thick)
  • 1 cup water in bowl

What works perfectly for me is adding a TSP of dish soap and mixing it gently into the water and then adding a TBSP of EVOO. Take one makeup brush at a time and gentle message the bristles in your fingers. I do this until my brushes don’t blot clear on the paper towel or towel which ever you prefer.

Tip: Clean your foundation brushes and sponges after every use. I usually clean my shadow brushes and contour brushes every week (I don’t wear eye-shadow a lot).
